Ink Spills and Itty Bitty BookZ

Zentangle HQ has been posting videos this past week to support their Project Pack 06 which is based on one of the core tenets of Zentangle: there are no mistakes. In the project pack is a book with ink spills on each page. Tangling on the page in the same color as the ink of the spills as usual, and then over the ink spills in white brings a very interesting quality to the patterns.

Thanks to Chris Titus and Lynn Shelton Mead, I have also been enjoying making Bitty BookZ of Zentangle tiles.

I had fun putting both of these explorations together in an Itty Bitty BookZ (Bijou tile size, 2" x 2") for my daughter.

Well, it has been quite some time since I posted last. Lots has happened. Here are a few of my pieces that are on display at the local Community Center this month. These are all 12" x 12".

"Globular Grid"
got me excited this week
(easy when I'm on break...).

I tried a number of new-to-me tangles, like Girdy, Gotcha, Équerre, & Phrox.
Old favorites included: Lanie, Lokomotive, Onamato, Striping, Shattuck, & Tipple.
This is a 4" apprentice tile using 005 & 08 black Microns & an 08 white Gelly Roll.

How exciting to send off another partial tile as part of the
This one is for a mother-son duo in Australia.
I can't wait to see how they will transform the tile!

Happy Spring!

What a relief to have finished report cards. The best part is the inspiration that comes from seeing so much growth and persistence and to be able to celebrate that with students and their parents!

A couple of new sources of inspiration have come my way. The Travelling Tangles Project group on Facebook presents an interesting challenge. Connect with fellow tanglers from around the globe. Tangle half a tile for them, then send it off. They do the same. When their tiles come in the mail, finish them. Stopping tangling half-way through a tile is much harder than I expected. Here are the before and after shots of a tile I received from Karin Tarter.

And here are the before and after images of a tile from the founder of the Travelling Tangles Project, Stephanie Jennifer:

Adele Bruno's Tickled to Tangle blog has finally come to my attention. She has a fun weekly challenge called It's a String Thing. My first response has been to her Pi Day challenge #136 with a Pi-shaped string:

Having finally decided to try making tangled gems, here is a practice tile:

What a great day! It started with some tangling in my journal.
Then I hiked with a friend at Coyote Lake. So green!

Then I finished my postcards for Kat Sloma's Liberate Your Art Swap - yay!
